The world has renowned Myanmar as The Golden Land for its so many pagodas, stupas and monastries all over the Country. Mawtinzun is a well-known seaside beach the southernmost of Myanmar where an ancient celebrated pagoda is in existence as Mawtinzun Pagoda.The grand pagoda festival is held annually for 15 days, beginning on the 1st Waxing of the moon to the 15th, the Full Moon Day of Dabaung.
If one would like to visit the pagoda festival he could take a riverine trip from Yangon as well as from Pathein in Ayeyawady Division. The voyage would be a joyful one both for heart and soul by seeing wonderful sceneries of the Ayeyawady region, by reading and enjoying a family picnic on the vessel.
The historic Haigyi Island is on the riverine route. It is a significant island in the sea like a tuskless elephant eroaching on its fours. Beyond the island, there are tidal forests such of mangroves, with the scene totally changed. After 10 hours by motar boat, the pilgrims will arrive "KhaMauntMaw", with a village jetty in "Ngaputaw" Township from where the pilgrims could continue their journey by bus to the venue of the pagoda festival which is alive with sales shops of regional products, foodstalls and entertainments.
The Mawtinzun pagoda is well-known for situating on a cape protruding into the sea which is known as Mawtinzun in Ngapudaw Tounship, Ayeyawady Division. Although the pagoda is renowned as "MawTinZun" pagoda, it’s sacred title is "MahaKhuHtaYanThi" which was built by King Alaung Sithu. There is another small pagoda on a rock at the very edge of the seabeach with the sacred title of "PhaungDawU" as it was built at the place where the royal barge of King Alaung Sithu had berthed. The pilgrims offer “Hsoon” (food), flowers, water and light to the "Maw Tin Zun" pagoda beginning at dawn as they participate in the pagoda festival.
After paying obeisance to the pagoda, the pilgrims could visit the Ngwedaung Beach in the environ of the pagoda for a swimming. The Board of the Pagoda Trustees has arranged of the pilgrims.
The pilgrims can not only visit beautiful sites in the vivinity of the pagoda but also (flat rock) at "Pyi Thayar" village and the tortoise island in "Ngaputaw" Township. The pilgrims are warmly welcomed to the wonderful "MawTinZun" pagoda for carrying meritorious deeds, sightseeing and observing the regional knowledge as well.
