Plaster Toys:
Belu island, at the mouth of Thanlwin River in South-eastern Myanmar, is adjacent to the Bay of Bengal.
Ywalut village in Belu island is well-known for its cottage industry. Plaster toys making is Ywalut’s main industry.
Moulds are made according to each toy. Chalk powder is mixed with water for an exact proportion and put into mould. When these are dried, remove the mould. By doing so, well proportionate plaster toys are obtained.
These toys are dried in the sun and smoothened with sandpaper.Later, these are polished by blowing with oil paint. After polishing, these toys are coloured and decorated artistically.Combining art and skillfulness , beautiful and lovely plaster toys are produced.Children and adults are pleased with the toys like owl, pigeon, lion, cat, rabbit, squirrel, bear, and human beings because they are not only a toy of beauty but also useful as saving banks.
