Folk Art of Pottery:
Shwebo in Sagaing Division is very famous for its folk art of pottery. First, clay is prepared and then the required amount of clay is used on potter’s wheel to shape the pot. In this procedure, one person rotates the potter’s wheel and the other molds the pot. Molding of the pot is very interesting to observe. Skill is needed to get a smooth rounded pot with tidy edges. After the pot has been shaped it is then left to dry in the open air. When it has become a little hard, the clay is given a smoother surface. The next step is also interesting as the outer-side of the pot is beaten by a wooden block, at the same time the inner-part is being pressed with water-soaked sand.
If you want a pot with a smooth surface, you have to beat the outer surface of the pot with a smooth wooden block. And if you want a pot with designs, you have to beat the surface with a wooden block with the designs you want.
Skillness and quickness are important in making pots. After fine polishing, the pots are now in the raw stage. After letting them to dry, they are now read to be bake with straw, mixed with soft mud. In this way the flame won’t burn too strong. By giving this kind heat, for two days the pots are ready to dry.

Myanma Eretes Sticticus:
During the rainy season, a kind of insect we called Twinpoes (Eretes Sticticus) come out in mass from the Twin Mountain or Twin Taung. That is why villagers from villages around that area during that season catch the insects and sold it to markets. Usually this is done at nights.
To catch the insects from the Twin Mountain, they have to make suitable traps so; you can see many traps set up along the riverbanks. First they have to find a place at the riverbank not very far but on the edge of the riverbank by rowing the boats. When they find the place of their choice, then they set up the traps. The things needed to make a trap are a plastic cup and jaggery sticks.
2 jaggery sticks is place on the plastic cup taking it as the center in a V shape. That’s all that’s needed for making a trap, which is really very simple. The lights from the shore attract the insects and because of these lights, the insects or Twinpoes, as we called it, slowly came up the shore. When arriving at the place where the plastic cup is placed, with 2 jaggery sticks while scrambling slowly at pace, they fall down one by one into the plastic cup. With that method and taking time, the insects are caught a mass. Patience is really needed to catch the insects. The best time to catch the Twinpoes is from between 6pm to around midnight and it is said that you get most of insects on full moon nights. The insects caught were boiled and then dried in the sun. Instead of dried prawns, people prefer to have Twinpoe fried.
Not only that Twinpoe balls are also cooked as curry, which is very delicious because it is very rich in taste. The insects from Twin Mountain, Twin Taung are species that can be consume by people harmlessly.

Myanmar Spirulina:
In Myanmar, the natural Spirulina is produced from the natural lakes of Twintaung, Twinma, Taungpauk and Yaekharr. Yaekharr Lake is located between Sagaing Hill and Min Wun Hill in Sagaing Division of central part of Myanmar.
Yaekhar Lake produces natural Spirulina to use in the production of medicines and consumer goods. The Spirulina can be found in the volcanic crater lakes and the natural lakes, having high PH level.
In the first stage of Spirulina production process, the water is pumped up from the lake. Pumping water includes 6:1of water and Spirulina. Pure Spirulina can be obtained from which the pumped water is sieved by three times during the reproduction season of Spirulina and this technique is called ‘Flat Plane’
At ordinary times, Spirulina is sieved by Tube Plane technique. The sieved Spirulina has to be made into filigree work by using hydraulic press. And then noodle like Spirulina is dried in the sun. To produce dried powdered Spirulina, two methods are used one by natural sun’s heat and the other is by chemical processes.
The Spirulina dried by chemical processes is better than the one dried by sun’s heat. The powdered spirulina is obtained by these methods. Yaekharr Lake is providing necessary Spirulina, one of the richest natural sources of protein, used to make medicines and consumer goods which are getting very popular in the International market day by day.

Myanmar's Favourite Make-up:
Thanakha is one of the essential facilities in traditional rituals and ceremonies in Myanmar.
Thanakha makes sense not only for women and girls, but also for the people of any age and sex in Myanmar society. As an obvious example, almost every boy and girl, beofre they go to school, is painted with Thanakha on his or her face, hand and sometimes on feet. The meanings of Thanakha for the girls here are beauty and cleanliness. For boys it might be the neatness. Besides that, "Smearing Thanakha is a must for every school child". It means one whose face is without Thanakha will be punished. For a Myanmar child, therefore, she/he will see Thanakha as a symbol of discipline.
The superiority of Thanakha, comparing with the modern make up, is its ability to make the skin cool and fresh. A woman sho has the habit of wearing Thanakha, of course, can't stay without it. If she has no chance to apply, Thanakha she may feel hot and uncomfortable. Even for Myanmar women sho are about to go abroad. Thanakha is No.1 in their list of things to be taken with them. Nowadays readymade Thanakha such as Shwe Pyi Nan, Daw Thi, Shwe Bo Min Tha Mi consistently come our way as the demands of very busy women and carrer girls. In this case, Thanakha has an essential part of their very lives.
Thanakha can therefore be considered as a symbol of the Myanmar people's Identity, which can highlight values, norms and beliefs of these people. These people also take pride in possessing Thankha as their valuable traditional heritage.
