U-Min means cave and Thonze is thirty: and this pagoda is a long cave on the side of a hill in Sagaing,containing thirty gilded Buddha Images.The entrances and arch ways are decorated with fine stucco work in the figures of spirits and mythological beings. The Padamyazedi dates from 1300 while the U min Thonze or thirty caves pagoda has many Buddha images in a crescent shaped colonnade. Mural paintings can be seen in the Tilawkaguru cave temple, which was built around 1672.
