Mandalay Ze-gyo,the central marketplace of Mandalay is a 'must visit' place when you are in Mandalay.Zey-gyo-thu,or the female shopkeepers of the marketplace personify the sophisticated, self-possessed calmness and savoir faire of the Mandalay womenfolk.There is very little chance that you can put one over them,aand there is less chance that you can get away with anything anything at all--not that you would want to try.It is known that Italian engineers constructed the Ze-gyo markerplace in 1903.Some of the buildings were rebuilt or repaired in the mid-nineties.One singular relict of the old colonial days has remained though.
